My Wine is Like a Red, Red Rose

Though many people only think of soju when they think of Korean liquors, Korea is not lacking in options when it comes to delicious wines. Yet another fascinating beverage available at our Bellevue Korean restaurant is sansachun, a Korean wine brewed from the juice of the Chinese hawthorn berry.

Sansachun is very sweet and thick, making it a good choice to go along with some of Korea’s strong meat dishes. It generally has an alcoholic content of 14%, though the milled rice that goes into the brew boasts the ability to reduce your chance of suffering a hangover.

Though a relatively recent introduction to the market, it would appear that sansachun dates back about four hundred years. Writings from the late Chosun Dynasty tell of the liquor’s medicinal properties, many of which can be attributed to the hawthorn berry. Sansachun is sometimes used as a treatment for heart disease, hypertension, nausea, intestinal disorders, and angina, and it has a demonstrated ability to battle free radicals. Come and drink to your health with a bottle of sansachan at Seoul Hot Pot today!
