Gochujang: the Spicy Heart of Korean Cuisine

Gochujang is one of the most important elements of the food at our Bellevue Korean restaurant. It is a popular Korean seasoning the world over, and its strong, spicy flavor can be attributed to much of the taste that makes Korean cuisine so unique and satisfying. And not only does it taste good, but it’s also a big part of the health benefits of Korean food.

In English, gochujang is commonly known as red pepper paste. It is made from South American red peppers mixed with sugar, fermented rice, soy, and an assortment of spices. All together, this paste is a highly beneficial part of any healthy diet. It promotes good metabolism and weight loss, it protects the skin from aging, it boosts the immune system with vitamin C, and it brings about relaxation in the body. Some substances in the paste can even be attributed to Korea’s low rate of certain kinds of cancer.

You can find gochujang in many of our dishes at Seoul Hot Pot. It comes cooked into most entrees, it’s often enjoyed as a dipping sauce for vegetables, and it’s even the source of the red coloration you see in most varieties of kimchi. Come and make gochujang a part of your healthy life today!
